Privacy notice

Version 2026-10. This notice covers danfocode.com, the Danfo Code game, and family and school accounts.

Danfo Code is a free game that teaches children and young people to code. We collect as little as we can, we never show ads to children, and we never sell or share personal data for marketing. This notice explains what we keep and why, in plain words. It is written with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in mind.

Playing without an account

Anyone can play without signing up. Progress is saved in the browser on that device. To understand how the game is used, the game sends us simple events, such as "a stop was cleared" or "a run failed with an indentation mistake", linked to a random number made on the device. These events contain no names, no code and no free text. We also note the state or region the connection comes from (never anything more precise), and the age group the player picked.

Pass it on (invite links)

Players can share Danfo Code with a link that carries a random six-character code. We never see who a link was sent to, and Danfo Code never reads contacts. If someone opens a link and clears their first stop, their device sends us that code once, with a random number made on their device so it is only counted once. The person who shared the link then sees how many friends joined and earns a badge. Nothing in this identifies anyone. Players aged 6 to 8 only see a link meant for their parent or teacher to share, and players aged 9 to 15 are asked to check with an adult before sending links.

Our other products

Signed-in parents, teachers and adult learners may see a short card about other products made by the team behind Danfo Code. These are never shown in the game or to children. If you click one, we count the click and the link tells that site you came from Danfo Code; we don't share your email, your learners or anything else with it.

Family and school accounts

Accounts are only for adults aged 18 or older: parents and guardians, teachers, and adults learning for themselves. Children never give us an email address or a real name.

What we keepWhy
The adult's email addressTo send sign-in codes. We don't use passwords.
Each learner's nickname and age groupTo show them in the game and the account, and to set the right difficulty and content for their age.
Each learner's game progress and the code they writeSo progress is kept on every linked device, and so the adult can see what they are learning.
An optional name for certificatesPrinted on certificates. Anyone with a certificate link can see this name and the certificate title, so for a child we suggest a first name and initial.
A record of consentWhen an adult adds a child, they confirm they are the parent or guardian, or that the teacher has the parent's consent. We keep the wording and the date.

Our lawful basis is consent: the adult's own consent, and the consent of the parent or guardian for a child. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by deleting the learner or the account.

Feedback and support messages

After a stop, players can rate it with a face; that rating is anonymous, like other gameplay events. Players can also send us a message with Tell us. Ages 6–8 choose from buttons only. Older players can also type, and before anything is saved we automatically remove phone numbers, email addresses, links and social media handles. We attach technical details to help fix problems (the stop, the last error message, screen size, browser), never names. Our replies appear only in the game.

Adults who write through the help centre or their account give us their email so we can reply. Support conversations are deleted 2 years after they are closed, or straight away when the account is deleted. Messages about a child's safety are read first, and we may share what we need to with a parent, school or the authorities if a child may be at risk.

Opportunities and links to other websites

Players aged 16 and over may see listings for conferences, training and internships. Younger players only see child-appropriate listings, in a section for parents and teachers. These link to the organiser's own website. We never pass on anything about a player; we only count how many times each listing is tapped. Some listings are paid for by the organiser, and these are always labelled "Sponsored".

Who processes data for us

The game and the database run on Cloudflare. Sign-in emails are sent through an email delivery service (Resend). Both act only on our instructions. Data may be processed outside Nigeria by these providers, under their data protection terms.

How long we keep it

Your rights

From the account page you can download everything we hold (a JSON file), correct a learner's details, unlink devices, delete a learner, or delete the whole account. Deleting removes progress and certificates straight away. You can also contact us to ask for a copy, a correction or deletion, to object to how we use data, or to complain. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
